Ok not everything that started out in 2017 was terrible. As you may have guessed, I was, eh-hum, I am still wrenching my heart out to Dokaebi 😭 The drama started out in December 2016, but I didn't watch it until January. I hated the idea of watching only 2 episodes a week. So I waited. There was a lot of hype about it. Paula never stopped bugging me to watch. When 14 episodes were available, I started watching. Obviously, I fell in love with the characters, when you have two hot actors, Gong yoo and Lee Dongwook— you simply cannot resist. I was a little skeptical about the female lead, cuz she's so young. But it turned out fine. I love her character...
In ancient times, Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is an unbeatable general in wars, but the young King (Kim Min-Jae) is jealous of Kim Shin and kills him. Kim Shin becomes Dokkaebi (Goblin), possessing an immortal life. At first he thinks that he is blessed, but he realizes that he is cursed.
Closer to the present day, Kim Shin has waited 900 years for a human bride to end his immortal life. One night, he saves a dying pregnant woman (Park Hee-Von) who is destined to die. Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-Wook) is unable to find the dead pregnant woman. The woman gives birth to a baby girl named Ji Eun-Tak (later played by Kim Go-Eun). 9 years later, Ji Eun-Tak lives with her mother and is able to see ghosts. One night, her mother suddenly dies. On that night, she meets the Grim Reaper.
In the present day, Ji Eun-Tak is a high school student. She still sees ghosts and hears their whisper of “Dokkaebi’s bride.” She now lives with her aunt’s family, but she is mistreated by them. On her birthday, Ji Eun-Tak sits by the sea with a lighted birthday cake. At that time, Kim Shin suddenly appears in front of her. Kim Shin does not know why, but he can hear her voice and appears in front of her against his will. Coincidentally, Kim Shin lives with the Grim Reaper at the same house.
Now, Kim Shin appears in front of her against his will, whenever she turns off the lights. One day, Ji Eun-Tak tells him that he is Dokkaebi and she is his bride.
The drama was a hot topic for a couple of reasons.
No doubt for the amazing cast, as well as their impeccable fashion choices. / Apparently all the long coats in South Korea are selling out thanks to the actors :lol: / The imagery and CG effects were amazingly well done. And of course, reading the plot, it may seem like another fairy tale, but unexpected plot-twist were so tear-jerking that simply re-watching certain scenes would bring out my tears in a matter of seconds :cry: yes, I'm that dramatic these days. So if you have some spare time, watch it!
Coming back to myself, well– if you recognized, I've always loved coats of all sorts. I decided to wear this coat home because it was Lunar New Year celebrations. With my habit of dressing up in black and white, I thought a little splash of red and blue would do some peace for my ears :) if you have traditional mom like me, I'm sure you'll understand
Since I couldn't get over Dokaebi, it seemed like I was trying to dress up as a combination of characters. With a Grim reaper hat and Dokaebi's long coat.. However I assure you it's not exactly how it seemed, besides neither the dokaebi nor grim reaper would be smiling. I've been looking for a black flat top hat, which is called a Matador hat. I found it at The Kooples with -50% sale, still freaking expensive. I wonder why matador hats are so hard to come by. Besides Grim Reaper's hat is a wide brim fedora hat that's Made in Heaven :P
I'm sure Paula is roaring in laughter somewhere while reading this, but let's hope I get over Dokaebi soon...
