Pouring art
#theartofanyhow
Lunar new year, new plans! I’d spare you all sorts of Lunar New Year greetings but the announcement of the year is finally here ლ(╹◡╹ლ) The shop that I’m talking about is finally open! Not that this was what I was planning at all…
If you’ve been following, you may have heard of my proclaims about #theartofanyhow for sometime now. It started out when I was doodling with inks when I was in school. Over the years, those doodles became something a lot more detailed. But the technique behind it was still the same. Random gribouilles— as the french says, filling out spacings in splotches of black, some with holes, There’s no guidelines… nothing serious. Only approximation. Everything is a rough sketch, but the end product, you’d be able to see that “perfect” look-alike of a Disney Castle. And that was how #theartofanyhow came about.
Fast forward a little, those china inks got replaced by acrylics!
Moving back to a sunshine house with lots of space and garden in Spring brought out some ideas and motivation. After some experiments, it became a new found solid passion — Pouring Art. At first it wasn’t easy to lay my hands on the right materials. After some time, I got a hang of it and now I’m absolutely in love.
Every piece is like magic. Every pour you mix, it’s hard to tell what comes out of it. How the colors would react, how the cells would form. Hence, every time I flip a cup, it feels like magic is happening. Though it’s not always pretty magic. Sometimes, the color comes out like a pile of poop, though I shouldn’t have put that image in your mind.
It comes back down to #theartofanyhow (●°u°●) 」 ( Pardon my overuse of hashtag ೖ(⑅σ̑ᴗσ̑)ೖ )
Over-planning the colors usually cause me to fail my paintings. So it’s best not to think, not to fuss = Randomness at it’s finest. And here you see, a small collection of my ever growing number of canvases. Packed up to the top of Dune de Pyla to witness one of my last sunsets of Banc d’Arguin in the cold was definitely an unusual experience. It was fall, temperatures dropping. Suiting up in a fluffy parka and barefooted wasn’t really justified on icy sand. But the view was so good.
It’d still take sometime before I get over being so sentimental about this mountain of sand.
Till then, take a look at the new shop!
p.s. Most of the paintings featured in this post are gifts for friends and family
