DIY Clutch Bag
Here comes my first attempt at DIY
No wait, I've actually made another bag. It was a really simple piece that has become my everyday bag. So here I am, making the clutch bag that I've always been looking for. A bag for grabs to keep my wallet, phone and house keys when I sit by a café to people watch, or a casual drink in the evening? Custom sized— Just what I need. I didn't exactly make this alone. I was talking to my mom about my ideas, she was constantly saying "you know shitz about sewing (which is true), it's not as easy as it seems". I think she got fed up with my naiveté, she ended up at the sewing machine instead of me, moms haha.
After some pinterest surfing and sketching, we got to work. For the first time, I have illustrated all my steps so that you can follow. I didn't really plan nor measure anything. It's was little tricky to sew the many layers of "leather" together, broke the needle thrice. It was a little scary though, I hated the feeling when the needle broke and the machine go berserk for a while. But I'm glad that my mom offered to help, because I actually sewed Step 2 myself by hand. Firstly— it wasn't perfectly straight, secondly— it took a long time. See that cardboard along the line? It acts as a support to sew a straight line. It helps to guide thicker materials like the one I chose.
Overall, it was fun, making my personalised piece. I should have printed my new logo in gold and stick it on the handle somewhere. That would be a truly unique piece in world! SO- would you be interested to make your own clutch bag?
p.s. you could even see the little remote control i bought to take photos. tsktsk, my secret is out! :D
